THE GUIDE
Knots & Folds

Four knots will carry a man through his life. Four folds will finish every jacket he owns.

THE KNOTS
[ four-in-hand, tied ]
Four-in-Hand
EVERYDAY
Slightly asymmetric, small, and quick. The knot most men should wear most days.
BEST WITH —Seven-fold, thicker silks
[ half windsor, tied ]
Half Windsor
BUSINESS
Symmetrical and medium-bodied. Balanced under a spread collar without shouting.
BEST WITH —Grenadine, jacquard
[ full windsor, tied ]
Full Windsor
FORMAL
Wide and deliberately triangular. Reserve it for a cutaway collar and a serious room.
BEST WITH —Lighter twills
[ pratt knot, tied ]
Pratt
UNDERRATED
Neat, narrow, and reversed at the start. The knot for a slim blade and a soft collar.
BEST WITH —Knitted silk
THE FOLDS
I.
Presidential
A flat rectangle, a quarter inch showing. Correct with a suit, always. Never wrong, never noticed.
II.
One Point
A single peak, slightly off-centre. Business with a little intent behind it.
III.
Puff
Gathered and pushed in loosely. For linen, for summer, for anything unbuttoned.
IV.
Winged Puff
A puff with two points drawn out. Black tie, weddings, and the last dance.
Caring for silk

Untie fully after every wear — never pull the blade through. Hang overnight and the creases fall out on their own. Dry clean rarely; press never, unless we do it.

Lifetime pressing

Send any piece back to Sackville Street and we will press and re-tip it, free, for as long as you own it. Postage both ways is ours.
